    What Our Landscaping Service Covers

Landscaping is the single biggest transformation you can make to an outdoor space. It's not just about aesthetics — a well-designed landscape improves how you use your garden, increases your property's value and creates a space that works for your lifestyle. MWM Gardening Services delivers complete landscaping solutions across Irvine, Kilwinning, Troon, Kilmarnock and the wider Ayrshire area.

Our landscaping services cover the full scope of hard and soft landscaping. Hard landscaping includes patios, paths, steps, retaining walls, raised beds, edging, drainage and groundwork. Soft landscaping covers turfing, planting schemes, border creation, topsoil supply and ground preparation.

This service is designed for homeowners who want to completely reimagine their outdoor space — whether that's a new patio for entertaining, a low-maintenance front garden, a child-friendly back garden, or a complete property overhaul. We also work with landlords and developers on garden installations for rental and new-build properties.

Every project starts with a face-to-face consultation where we walk the site, discuss your vision and budget, and start sketching out possibilities. We handle everything from design through to build and finishing — one team, one point of contact, from start to finish.

What Happens When Your Garden Doesn't Work

A poorly designed garden isn't just unattractive — it's a wasted asset. Uneven ground creates drainage problems. Patchy, boggy lawns become unusable for months. Cracked or sloping patios are trip hazards. And a garden that doesn't flow properly means you use only a fraction of the space available to you.

Many homeowners inherit gardens that were designed for the previous owner — or never designed at all. The result is a patchwork of features that don't connect, surfaces that don't drain, and planting that's either overgrown or struggling. It's frustrating, and it holds back the entire property.

The most expensive mistake in landscaping is doing it twice. Cheap materials, poor groundwork and shortcuts in drainage mean surfaces crack, shift and flood within a few years. Spending a little more on proper foundations and quality materials saves significantly over the life of the garden.

Another common error is trying to landscape in stages without a master plan. This leads to disconnected areas, inconsistent levels and clashing materials. Even if you're phasing the work over time, starting with a complete design ensures everything fits together in the end.

    How Our Landscaping Projects Work

    1

    Site Visit & Consultation

We visit your property, discuss your goals, walk the space and take measurements. We talk about style preferences, how you want to use the garden, and your budget range.

    2

    Design & Planning

We create a landscape plan covering layout, materials, levels and planting. For larger projects, this includes scaled drawings. You approve the design before we begin.

    3

    Groundwork & Preparation

The site is cleared, levels are set, drainage is installed and sub-bases are laid. This is the foundation of everything — we never cut corners here.

    4

    Hard Landscaping Build

Patios, paths, walls, raised beds and other structural elements are built to specification. We work methodically, section by section, to maintain site safety and order.

    5

    Soft Landscaping & Finishing

Turf is laid, borders are planted, topsoil is spread and the finishing touches are applied. We walk the completed project with you to ensure everything meets your expectations.

Why Professional Landscaping Is Worth the Investment

    Designed for Your Life

We design around how you actually use your garden — entertaining, relaxing, kids playing, pets roaming. Form follows function.

    Built to Last

Proper groundwork, quality materials and experienced installation mean your landscape stands up to Scottish weather for decades, not seasons.

    Increased Property Value

Professional landscaping is one of the highest-return home improvements. A well-designed outdoor space can add 5–15% to your property's market value.

    One Team, Start to Finish

No subcontractors, no handoffs. Mark manages and executes every stage of the project personally. One point of contact throughout.

    Drainage Done Right

Every hard surface we install has proper drainage beneath it. No puddles, no flooding, no erosion. Your garden works in the rain as well as the sun.

    Maintenance-Ready

We can transition directly from your landscaping project into a regular maintenance plan — keeping your new garden looking its best from day one.

Landscaping: Materials, Methods & Technical Detail

Hard landscaping forms the structural backbone of any garden design. For patios, we work with Indian sandstone, porcelain tiles, limestone, slate, block paving and concrete slabs. Each material has different properties — porcelain is low-maintenance and frost-resistant, natural stone weathers beautifully, block paving is ideal for driveways and curved areas.

Every patio and path installation begins with excavation to the correct depth, followed by a compacted Type 1 MOT sub-base (typically 100–150mm), a sharp sand or morite bedding layer, and then the paving material itself. Joints are filled with appropriate pointing compound — kiln-dried sand for traditional joints, resin-based or cementitious pointing for a more permanent finish.

Retaining walls are used to manage level changes, create raised beds and define garden zones. We build with natural stone, concrete blocks, timber sleepers and gabion baskets depending on the aesthetic and structural requirements. Any wall over 600mm typically requires a concrete foundation.

Drainage is critical in the Ayrshire climate. We install linear channel drains, ACO drains and French drain systems to manage surface water. For larger areas, we connect to existing soakaways or install new ones. Poorly drained gardens lead to waterlogged lawns, flooded patios and damp problems in adjacent structures.

Soft landscaping covers everything living. We prepare ground with rotavating, topsoil application and soil amendment where needed. Planting schemes are designed for year-round interest — mixing evergreens for structure, perennials for seasonal colour, and ground cover plants for low-maintenance borders. We source plants from reputable Scottish nurseries where possible.

For residential gardens, most landscaping projects are completed within 1–4 weeks depending on scope. We maintain a clean, organised site throughout, minimise disruption and communicate daily on progress. Every project is a partnership — your input matters at every stage.
